Boingy was using the old pot during the winter, February 2018,
We weren't even sure how often she visited, certainly not in the snow.

News flash - Captain Boingy seems to have returned after being away for 6 months!
Unfortunately it appears she has pushed out her son Tufty in the process.
Mid April 2019

Boingy stops briefly on the roof before jumping down the chestnut tree

Mid leap, 24th April 2019

It's behind you Boingy ;)

The magic Hedgie pot

After a couple of days of disruption (home repairs)

Boingy came back for one nut, 2nd May

However another squirrel was around earlier in the day (Random red paws ???)

**** Sadly Boingy has been pushed out again ****

by the mystery squirrel now called Stripey (Fab stripey tail)
6th May 2019

Yet another squirrel visits, this time a male called Nic
he has a small nick in his right ear
and has all red paws

Seems it is Captain Boingy and I mistook her gender as she has become muscular! (30th August)

Dangle peanut squirrel is fairly new to the garden, August 2019

Captain Boingy is back and up to her fun antics - this time with a new magic snail pot
30th August 2019

It's like squiz is in a trance whilst spinning the walnut, August 2019

There have been several squirrels around but mostly brief visits for water.
One poor male hasn't got the hang of the nutpot and seems to have been in a battle.
His once beautiful tail is half the length it should be. It appears to be broken or twisted,
so is very skittish and scared of everything. I call him Short tail.

Short Tail's tongue after a drink, 1st Sept

Short Tail has been visiting a bit more today
and finally found and ate a monkey nut left inside the magic snail pot.

Short Tail explores the magic hedgie pot

Snail pot, 3rd Sept

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Both Boingy and Stripey Short Tail have come up to the patio doors to look in recently.
Boingy watching out for a Sparrowhawk from the roof (it's been perching in her Pine tree)
Boingy didn't realise the Sparrowhawk was sitting on a nearby pot the next morning
she did a double take and dashed off, 4th Sept
Boingy rotates and caches a Brazil nut. She enjoys finding and hiding these more than eating.
If you've seen the Tufty page you'll know the silver foil ball inside the nutpot
is to pad out the space inside so the squirrels can reach the nuts.
Boingy unlike Tufty has not squirreled the foil ball away.
Short Tail's broken tail is visible here
He's trying to reach some food Boingy dropped
Boingy has been enjoying squiggling about inside the snail pot looking for food
Boingy has been so busy caching whole nuts but stops to take and eat our only acorn
26th September 2019
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I still believe Stripey Tail became Short Tail which is a sad loss of such a beautiful tail.

However Shorty has finally got used to the sound of the nutpot lid clanging shut
He used it properly for the first time today

Shorty has made huge progress and overcame his fear of sticking his head inside the lid
He's still nervous of being in confined spaces (after his tail inccident)
2nd October 2019

Boingy has been hanging out with a different male squirrel with a stunning tail
He also hasn't mastered the nutpot. Which is why he is inside the bird safety cage eating seeds
They all have amazing fur patterns at the moment

Boingy clings to the oak - autumn colours

you can see his tail is bent at an angle and flops

The new male finds a MN inside the snail pot and hides it in the hedgie pot

then Boingy finds the MN inside the hedgie pot and squirrels it away elsewhere!

The new male squiz

Boingy is so busy caching at the moment
She is becoming more used to us, and will come begging at the door for treats
She squeaks while chasing the new male away and prefers Shorty's company

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Looks like the new male has broken his tail after his chase with Boingy,
It appears to be limp half way down ....
He did rather crash into one of our big pots while escaping ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Boingy with cobnut, 22nd Oct
Boingy finally takes the walnut, 22nd Oct
Boingy after she was upset (alarm calling) in the Cherry tree, 22nd Oct
Possibly due to a bird of prey (unknown) which I spotted a short time later after hearing it
Floppy Tail was the only squirrel today (22nd Oct) that sensed a cobnut up high
he climbed the bench next to the unit but did not jump up like Random did last year
A Great tit took the cobnut a while later
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In other news Floppy Tail the new male can now use the nutpot OK, 23rd Oct

Boingy happily cracks into a fresh cobnut

She rather confused me as she has grown her winter white ear tufts (I thought Tufty had returned)

Shorty (or the new male ?) up the Chestnut, 23rd Oct

After hearing lots of chasing on the roof I spotted another new squirrel, 25th Oct

He leapt across to the Chestnut to explore the Flutterbutter

Floppy Tail

Boingy's search for nuts took her to the bench

Interesting colourings on Floppy Tail, 27th Oct

OK so this is how smart Captain Boingy is
she has worked out I am seeing her through the garden "Hedgehog" camera
by either looking at it from the nutpot or coming over to the bench underneath it and looking up at it
and if I happen to see her I'll drop her a hazelnut out the window which she caches
[I only treat her this way not the boys]
28th Oct

Boingy has been showing another Newbie squirrel around today, it's too cute,
they are getting through the food quickly, 29th Oct

Shorty chases Boingy

~~ Shed was tidied this week and a little pile of empty nut shells were found inside ~~

but no evidence of how they got inside - no gaps or holes!
